Does what it is designed for - I like itJun 23, 2011
By Robert I just picked up one for 108 before the latest price drop - and now I may get another for a backup.
Yes, it is a very basic flash .... no pc sync port - no optical slave. However, for candid and event photography that you plan on leaving the flash on camera it works great for the cost. I use it with a Nikon D200 and so far so good. Why pay all the extra $ for a Nikon SB600 - SB900 if you do not plan on using the off camera CLS system? I use some old Vivitar's in manual when doing the off camera flash.
As far as all the underexposed complaints - at least with my Nikon I can tweak the power settings by using the camera in manual and then adjusting the exposure compensation dial - this is really needed when using light modifiers. All and all it does exactly what I need it for - time will tell about the dependability.

Very basic flashSep 07, 2011
By I-Liang Siu I bought this flash to use with a Nikon D7000. Flash is quite powerful and has both tilt and swivel which enables versatile bouncing.
When aimed directly at subject, exposures are very good. Recycling is ~1~2 seconds, but that can vary with the type of batteries used. However, when bouncing off the ceiling, I need to apply +1.5 EV exposure compensation for proper exposure. Not sure if it's the flash or body (will try to obtain another flash for comparison).
Another this to be aware of is that there are only two manual power settings: full and low. Only matters if you want to do strobist stuff off camera.
Overall, I think it's a good basic flash without many bells and whistles, and a good value; but it shouldn't be necessary to dial in exp. comp. in bounce mode so I deducted 2 stars.
Good features, fast and easy to useApr 26, 2012
By Marcelo G Silva TTL is really the way to go, forget about taking 10 shots to figure out which speed to set the flash. If you are in a studio ok, but if you are in a party, or taking pictures of kids, forget tuning. This flash is an excellent bang for the buck and is light to carry.

dissapointing at bestJan 12, 2008
By M. Weimer I bought this flash, admittedly by mistake. I meant to get the "super" version but I didn't look close enough at the product label. This flash when used on the Nikon D80 really is sub-par. It only actually flashes 80% of the time with the rest just simply going unlit. For the first few uses after being turned on it exposes correctly and then ever shot after that get progressively more exposure until the frame is nearly completely saturated white. It will not fast sync over 1/640 shutter. I wanted a large output flash for outdoor fill, but with such a low sync it is not even good for that.
It is very cheaply made and have really no useful features other than it gives of a HUGE amount of light (when it flashes and typically when it is not needed)
I do not recommend getting this product and I will be returning it as soon as I can get reach of 47st photo. (I hate getting shipments on Fridays just for this reason).
I am not going to try to "super" version. It is too much more money to trust it will work correctly. When the Nikon SB-600 flash is the same price even if it does have a lower GN.
