A more solid replacement for the kit lensJul 15, 2011
By A. Gruenenwald I bought this lens to replace the kit lens that came with my Nikon D50. I've done some side-by-side comparisons and this lens has slightly less barrel distortion. It also appears to take brighter pictures when using a flash. Chromatic aberration (purple fringe) and sharpness seem to be about the same. The Sigma lens has a much more solid feel to it and isn't so "plastic-y".

FANTASTIC lens with unbelievable price!Jan 25, 2009
By Robert F. Thompson Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 DC Aspherical Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras What a beautiful lens. I am using it for close up (tabletop) phototgraphy and could not be happier. It does the job better than my Nikon macro 50mm. This lens is much more versitile. I cannot believe the price and the excellent service. I will buy from you again!.
