Opteka proudly presents the next HD10X macro lens. Originally designed for dentists and medical use, the HD10X is now available to the public. Unlike current single element lenses, the HD10X has 4 elements of high definition optical glass that provides unbelievable detail. Cameras fitted with normal lenses do not permit us to move closer than a certain minimum distance from the object being photographed. The Close-Up lens, which is simply mounted in the front of our normal taking lens, permits the taking of close-ups and also makes possible the photography of details which would be quite impossible without using the Close-Up lens. The easy to use solution for getting extra close. These lenses enable you to get much closer than the minimum focus of the standard camera lens - as close as 4 inches from the subject. Ideal for cataloging small items and focusing on details. | | | Features: | |

Excellent deal.Jan 28, 2009

For those who are wanting to play with Macro without paying $500 this is the way to go.
I was hesitant, with only one review on this product when i bought it, but hey, [...] Why not huh? if it sucks i could always keep it in my camping gear for starting fires.
I got it in, it comes with a cheap little pleather pouch and lenscaps for the font and back. Which is all it needs really.
I have a Nikon D40 with a 18-55mm kit lens plus a 55-200vr telephoto lens.
See the pics i have submitted for this product in the pics section, the pics speak for themselves on how well this works. It does not interfere with autofocus but you have to be real close. The 18-55 lens worked great with this, but i have achieved better than 1:1 magnification with the 55-200mm lens. At 150-200mm the focus depth is so razor thin that it is hard to make out much . dropping down to 135-105mm seems to work best.
It installs just like a normal filter by screwing onto the end of the lens.
I have never played with a real macro lens. I am an amature, and have been in this hobby for 5 months and only taken 6,000 photo's. I would love a real macro lens one day, but right now this is defaintly fun to play with! it really kicks butt witht he 55-200mm lens.
for 30 bucks you get a real fun toy that gives you macro ability.
all the pics i submitted are resized by amazon, none have been cropped. something the size of the diameter of a cigerette is nearly enough to fill the frame.
good times!

OK for Macro experiments on the cheapFeb 07, 2009
By Cab F. For the money this is an inexpensive lens for trying out macro photography with your new Nikon Dxx SLR. They don't mention that it requires a 52 to 55mm adapter, but the adapter does come with it. Screw it on your Nikon 18-55, keep the VR on if you have it or use a tripod and it will work. Switch to manual focus and have some fun with bugs, flowers, coins and other objects. Try shooting the back of your hand and see a forested plain. The depth of field is poor as only the center or flat part of your subject will be in sharp focus. Shipping was fast. Playing with this will make you start saving for a REAL macro lens.

A Satisfactory AlternativeApr 14, 2009
By MTSOfan I bought this lens after reading a review on Amazon, and as an alternative to buying a much more expensive macro lens. I've found the results to be very impressive, much better than anything I've had before. Though I cannot compare the macros I'm now taking with those of a Nikkor lens that would mount directly onto the camera, I am quite satisfied.

Great for amatuers!Apr 10, 2010
By Amanda Smith I recently purchased this lens mainly because of other reviews I read of the product. I enjoy random macro imagery and read this would be perfect for beginners with macro. And it is. I saw other products that came with different magnifications, which required a different lens per how many times you wanted to magnify and I felt that was just too much right now. For me, an average photographer, it so far creates great macro that I'm looking for. I'm not looking for the best, its great for a right now product to learn the ways of macro before getting something more expensive. The price was great, which at the time I bought it, it was $26. I will put up some pictures (if i can figure it out) but I will also leave my photography site for examples of how this lens works.
The only negative I see, is that you sometimes have to physically move back and forth to get the picture clear. It is better to switch the camera to manual instead of auto. Auto tends to keep focusing and not catch the image as clear as you need to. Doing it manually will give you a clear image that you need. That is the only setback I see. The best thing I like is how it comes in a bag that I can easily carry with me, its like a filter.
I very much enjoy this product, hopefully this helps. Its cheap, great for beginning in macro. The price could be worse.

Purchased for teenage daughter to add to her Nikon D60 50MM lens. Works great. Allows her to get very close and improve her macro photography skills and "eye". She has taken some amazing photos with this simple lens attachement.
