A generic, large capacity battery for Panasonic camcordersMar 29, 2009
By Jerry Saperstein It wasn't until I began to write this review that I noted there is nothing in Amazon's description of this battery about a warranty. Nor is there anything to be found about a warranty on the distributor's website. though they do show a US toll-free number for customer support. MaximalPower also exhibits at at least three very expensive trade shows, so I guess there is some substance to the company.
In any event, I suppose a warranty isn't all that important with a product this inexpensive or so subject to user abuse.
The battery works - and that is what it is supposed to do. MaximalPower suggests a 10 hour initial charge and 2 hours thereafter. They also suggest that it will take 3 to 5 charge/discharge cycles before the battery is fully conditioned. This is in line with the recommendations of other manufacturers.
Construction quality seems high.
I have no sophisticated tools for testing batteries and I am not about to subject my camcorder to hour upon hour of recording just to see how long the battery will last. Two hours was plenty for me and the power meter on the camcorder still showed two bars. Experience tells me that there's enough power left for another hour's shooting. Carry the original battery with this and you should have enough power for five hours or so of shooting, provided you are not using any accessories (such as microphones) that draw upon the camera for power. Not bad at all.
The battery is larger than the 1360mAh CGA-DU14 that comes with the camcorder. It is just a hair shorter than the fully extended optical viewfinder, so it doesn't interfere with operations at all. The battery fits as snugly on the camcorder as the original.
What I don't know and won't know for some time is how the battery performs with use. How many recharge cycles will it provide? In my experience, a good lithium-ion battery will last for about 300 cycles. However most of the generic batteries, such as this, that I have used have rarely made it to 100 cycles.
We shall see. For the moment, this battery provides everything it promises.

Works wellOct 10, 2009
By S. Clark I bought this as an extra battery for my Panasonic camcorder. It has a much larger capacity than the battery that came with the camera, and costs much less than a similar battery from Panasonic. So far I've used it for several days and have had no problems. I'm very happy with it.
Doesn't workFeb 20, 2010
By Tracey Lawrence I received the battery and charged it to full. When I tried to use it with my camera, it did not work. I emailed the company requesting an exchange several days ago. No response. Very disappointing.
