Description:

Bringing a new level of versatility and capability to flash photography, the Speedlite 430EX II features a powerful flash (guide number of 141 ft./43m at ISO 100) with a fast recycling time in a compact, durable body. A one-touch quick-lock mechanism makes it easy to attach or detach the 430EX II from the camera and a metal foot has been added for strength and durability. Flash controls can now be set through the camera's LCD screen on compatible EOS Digital SLR cameras. The Speedlite 430EX II is also quieter, recycle time is 20 percent faster (as compared to the 430EX) and since it is compatible with Canon's wireless E-TTL, it can be used as an affordable "slave unit."

E-TTL II for compatible Canon EOS cameras and EF series lenses

Flash controls settable through camera's LCD screen on compatible EOS digital SLR models

LCD information panel

Flash head can be tilted and swiveled for bounce flash

Built-in wide-angle pull-down diffuser panel (covers focal lengths down to 14mm on a full-frame camera)

5Canon Speedlite 430EX IIAug 31, 2010
I am so glad I went with this Speedlite rather than go cheap and get a compatible "off brand" light. Quality is excellent. It's pretty easy to use, just pop it on your camera and go. I have only used it for a short time but the quality of my photos has improved dramatically specially when I use it off camera wirelessly. I'm sure there is a lot more that this light can do than what I've done so far. Just need to learn all the tricks and get more experience with it. I could go on and on about how much I like this Speedlite. All I really have to say is if you don't have a flash BUY this. The only thing better is the 580EX II, which will be my next flash purchase. Also the price I got here was $80-$100 less than I have seen it at retail stores. Comes with a nice little carry case and stand.

5Great flash just that..Aug 28, 2010
Great flAsh Just that the FE buttons on flash are not easily accessible though can be set through *Eos camera body. Overall this flash is great as I expected to be, sufficient power for my xti.

4excellent features and easy to useAug 28, 2010
I can use this flash on the XSi and the 7D and it works perfectly. I prefer to manage the settings via the camera and almost always use it as bounce flash with a diffuser. Hi-speed sync is a great feature to have for fill-flash. I also have the 270ex so I use the 430ex if I want a little more flexibility with bouncing the light off different angles, and setting the flash levels. But honestly, I can get 90% of my flash shots with the 270ex. As with most flashes, they will stop firing after many continuous shots, so just let it rest and it will start all over again. I used Eneloop batteries, and 4 of these have lasted about 3-4 months in the flash unit. I'm not sure why they held their charge for so long. There is only one bad thing, some of the components of the 430ex are rather flimsy. The red plastic panel to protect the AF beam broke after several months. I called Canon and they sent me a replacement part for $12 (includes shipping costs).

Does everything it is supposed to do. ETTL works great, very easy to use and learn. Off camera with wireless triggers works well also. Manual mode and high speed sync woks well also. Only drawback I find is the buttons seem a little small.

5Great productAug 18, 2010
This is actually my first flash, and I have to say that the instructions are pretty simple, the flash works excellent and the case protects really nice.

Its a great product.
