I suspect that like most of you, I chose the Canon HF10 series digital camera for many reasons, with one being the small size and big lense combination. I have a TX-1, which is even smaller, but the larger lense of the HF10 allows better shooting in dim light or with fast-moving subjects. Anyway, size and portability mattered for this camera, and to protect the investment, size of the case would be important to me as well. Those that own one of the HF10 series know it is just small enough to slip into a handbag or overcoat pocket, and I didn't want to lose that convenience by protecting it with a large padded case. Indeed, I'd been carrying it around, rolled up in the original white foam plastic bag, for several weeks, trying to find a better alternative.
After researching a bit online, and reading the various comments, I picked this case and crossed my fingers. It arrived promptly and was as I expected, which is to say, snug fit, not much larger than the camera alone, but also not padded. The leather case is well stitched and of decent quality material, with stiff sides that protect the camera and a soft lining to prevent scratching. The bottom slots mentioned by others were in fact two seams that the manufacturer declined to sew (the slot edges are finished), and the openings were indeed large enough that an SDHC card could slip through. I recall no mention of the internal card pockets with cover that help to offset this poor design feature by providing a home for two memory cards.
The width and depth of the case clearly fit the Canon HF10 camera precisely, even trying to slide the wrist strap inside was a challenge (I took it off, leaving on only the over-finger strap). The length of the case was just a bit longer than the camera case, which was perfect for two reasons: it allows upgrading the camera to the larger capacity battery pack without bursting the top, and it leaves space in the bottom of the case to put in a bit of padding. I folded the foam bag in which my HF10 arrived into a small 3x4xhalf inch rectangle and used it to line the bottom of the case, which in my judgement is most critical for protection against accidental drops. This simple modification had the additional benefit of plugging the annoying bottom slots (though the white bag did show through a bit, which some might find objectionable). Time will tell whether the velcro closure holds up or slowly loses its grip with repeated use. The shoulder strap was a bit thin but the loops on the sides of the case are solid so another strap could be substituted if desired. Again, I took the case strap off to keep the overall size small, and just carry the case in a coat pocket.
In short, if you are looking for a case specifically for the HF10/HF11 series camcorder, and need light duty protection, this case seems like a good choice to me. It was the smallest I could find, indeed the smallest possible that would contain the camera. I'll still put the entire camera and this case, plus spare battery packs, charger, and memory cards, inside a larger heavily padded shoulder bag when traveling to shoot sites.
I uploaded a few photos of the case and camera together, which I hope will prove useful to others facing the same decision.

Don't go near the sand...Nov 17, 2008

Bought this case along with the HF11 just before a trip to Maui. The first day there I was on the beach for video of the grandkids with the empty case hanging from my neck. I sat down and the bottom of the case touched the sand. End of case. The bottom of this case is sturdy enough, but it has "slits" along two sides and the sand easily entered the interior which has a velvety lining. I couldn't get all of the sand out with repeated efforts, and obviously didn't want sand in the camera. Ended up tossing the case.
The case fits the HF11 perfectly and offers adequate protection from impact. I don't know if I'll get another one of these (the price is right) or get a larger case that can also accommodate extra battery, recharger, cables, etc. This case has two nice interior pockets for holding SD cards but there is no room for anything else (except sand). Thus it makes a very compact and lightweight package with the HF11.

I have several Canon products including many generations of compact cameras, SLR cameras (film and digital) and camcorders and always buy the Canon branded accompanied case or holder.
With a lot of Canon history, this is by far the cheapest last minute thought out camera case made with the Canon badge on it. If you place anything small or loose in the case, you risk it falling out from the slots in the bottom of the case. The strap has decent clips that attach firmly to the case, but the strap itself is very thin and cheap. The construction of the case is just poor. The case is sized right to the Canon HF11 and supports the Extended battery BP-819 and thus does provide the necessary protection which seems to be the only criteria by Canon for this case.
I would buy this case again only because I have found nothing else that is made specifically for the HF11 and protecting the camera is the number one priority even though this case is a disappointment.

This case is the perfect size for the Canon Vixia HF20. For storage of additional cords & supplies you will need a larger container of some sort, but when you take the video recorder with you to an event this case is a nice, compact size. Build quality is consistent with the "Canon" brand image.

Fits our Canon just perfectly but nothing else. Good when you KNOW that you won't need the cables, extra battery, etc.
